The SWB Concept as the Main Topic of the SSSE Economic Area Development Council Meeting
(12.12.2025)
The main topic of the December meeting of the Economic Area Development Council of the Słupsk Special Economic Zone (SSSE) was the Słupsk Bioenergy Island (SWB) – an innovative project that offers an opportunity to strengthen local energy, foster the economic development of the region, and reduce energy costs.
During the meeting, issues concerning local energy balancing for both the industrial sector and local governments were widely addressed. The participants discussed the possibilities of utilizing various energy sources, methods of combining them, and the role of municipal companies and local governments in establishing a stable local energy market.
Particular attention was paid to the potential of the Słupsk wastewater treatment plant as an example of a circular economy (CE) and a local energy hub supporting the region’s energy transition. Furthermore, both ongoing and planned projects aimed at strengthening the local energy balancing area were presented.
The SWB project was showcased as a model framework that other local governments in Poland could replicate in the future. The importance of cooperation, searching for synergies, and developing local energy communities was highly emphasized.
Our Company was represented at the meeting by President Andrzej Wójtowicz and the Plenipotentiary of the Management Board for the Development of Energy Initiatives, Piotr Lidzbarski. The event was also attended by members of the SSSE Economic Council, including local government representatives.
As a reminder: The project “SWB Słupsk Bioenergy Island – Developing energy competences of the SKB cluster coordinator” is implemented by “Wodociągi Słupsk” Sp. z o.o. as the Final Beneficiary of Support (OOW), who is simultaneously the Leader of the Słupsk Bioenergy Cluster.
