We are pleased to inform you that the City of Słupsk took first place in the main ranking for cities with powiat status in the WATER CITY INDEX 2024. Ranking of water resource efficiency in Polish cities. This is the sixth edition of the popular city ranking, authored by experts from Arcadis, academics from the Krakow University of Economics, and the Foundation for Economy and Public Administration.
The presentation of awards and statuettes took place on October 16 during the 6th International Congress City-Water-Quality of Life, organized by the City of Wrocław and the Open Eyes Economy Summit. The award was accepted on behalf of the city by Andrzej Wójtowicz, President of the Wodociągi Słupsk Company, Katarzyna Guzewska, Director of the Department of Municipal Economy and Environmental Protection of the Słupsk Town Hall, and Alina Szpanowska-Karaś, Deputy Director of the Municipal Infrastructure Management of the Słupsk Town Hall.
The Water City Index is the first and so far only publication available on the Polish market that so broadly defines the strengths, weaknesses, needs, and challenges in managing blue infrastructure in our cities. The index was created for city authorities, representatives of local communities, entrepreneurs, non-governmental organizations, public institutions, and all other entities involved in water resource protection, as well as for residents. The numbers forming the ranking perfectly illustrate how cities live with water on a daily basis. Year after year, the authors of the WCI draw increasingly interesting conclusions and describe in detail how our water-urban relationships are changing. Moreover, the results of the index constitute a valuable source of information for local authorities at various stages of shaping and implementing local water policy. Therefore, experts present each subsequent edition of the Water City Index with even greater joy and pride.
We are all the more honored by this distinction and glad that our city can boast such excellent results.
