Słupsk Water Utility Becomes a Partner in the Prestigious ReNEW-WRRF International Research Project
Wodociągi Słupsk has officially joined an international consortium applying for project funding under the HORIZON-MSCA-2026-DN program. The entire initiative is coordinated by the University of Palermo, with the Gdańsk University of Technology acting as the national partner. Our company has signed a letter of intent with the university, declaring its participation in a European research program aimed at transforming wastewater treatment plants into energy-neutral water resource recovery facilities.
Together with the Gdańsk University of Technology, we will develop a “digital twin” of the Słupsk treatment plant. This computer model will allow us to safely test advanced ecological technologies on screen before implementing them in the live facility.
As part of the project, we will:
- Share knowledge: by providing operational data on wastewater treatment, sludge management, and energy consumption to power the digital model.
- Support young talent: by granting researchers, PhD students, and interns access to the infrastructure of the Słupsk treatment plant for conducting research and sampling.
- Focus on practical innovation: by supporting the installation and testing of advanced monitoring equipment and pilot systems integrated with the digital model.
Participation in such a prestigious program is not only a great honor for Wodociągi Słupsk, but above all an opportunity to implement pioneering solutions in the field of the circular economy (CE). We are thrilled that our experience and infrastructure will contribute to scientific advancement and help build a green future for the water and wastewater sector.
