Results of the Słupsk Bioenergy Cluster’s Activities
The Słupsk Bioenergy Cluster (SKB) has moved from the planning phase to real-world implementations, becoming one of the most advanced initiatives of its kind in Poland. Thanks to the cooperation between local governments and municipal companies, a number of investments have been realized in RES, biogas infrastructure, and cogeneration.
Utilization of Waste Heat for the Region
Thermal energy generated in the technological processes of the Słupsk wastewater treatment plant already supplies the “Trzy Fale” Water Park in Słupsk. This solution supports the sustainable heating of municipal infrastructure and effectively reduces transmission losses.
Thermal Self-Sufficiency of the Company’s Facilities
Biogas extracted from sewage sludge is used to produce clean energy. The resulting heat fully covers the heating demands of the wastewater treatment plant buildings belonging to the company “Wodociągi Słupsk.” This allows for a significant reduction in emissions and optimal resource management in line with the principles of the circular economy.
Development of the Słupsk Bioenergy Island (SWB) from KPO Funds
A breakthrough stage in the SKB’s activity is the project “Słupsk Bioenergy Island – developing the energy competences of the cluster leader.” Funding was successfully secured from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO) for the implementation of both the pre-investment and investment phases. The co-financing enables the construction of a modern, independent system based on photovoltaics and energy storage, which significantly strengthens the region’s energy security.
Construction of Modern RES Infrastructure
The Cluster integrates biogas, wind, and solar energy with conventional solutions. This creates a coherent and balanced mix that increases the independence of the local community.
Through these actions, the SKB not only raises the share of renewable sources in the overall balance but also builds a lasting foundation for the further energy transition of the Słupsk region.
