Debate on the Future of the Water and Wastewater Industry in Kraków
(11.12.2025)
On December 3–4, 2025, the “Catalogue of Water and Wastewater Company Practices” Conference was held in Kraków. It is one of the most important industry events in Poland, bringing together representatives of the water supply and sewerage sector, scientists, and experts from across the country. The event was organized by the Economic Chamber “Polish Waterworks” and the Kraków Water Utility.
Representing the Słupsk Water Utility, President Andrzej Wójtowicz participated in a panel discussion dedicated to the revised EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive 2024/3019. The discussion focused on key issues and challenges related to the implementation of the new regulations, which will shape the development of the Polish water and wastewater industry in the coming years. The transposition of the revised directive into national law must be completed by mid-2027.
The panel discussions covered, among other topics:
- Financial and technological barriers related to the implementation of the 4th stage of wastewater treatment (quaternary treatment);
- The creation of national regulations that will allow environmental and social goals to be met without placing an excessive burden on local governments and municipal companies.
Participation in the panel provided the Słupsk Water Utility with an opportunity to present its own approach to industry challenges and to actively engage in the debate shaping the future of the water and wastewater sector. Additionally, water and wastewater initiatives implemented by the Company under the project “Circular Economy in the Wastewater Treatment Plant along with the Expansion of the Water and Sewerage Network in the Słupsk Agglomeration” were also highlighted.
We are pleased to have been part of such an important discussion that sets the direction for the development of the entire industry in Poland.
