The Workshop on Energy Communities in Practice is Behind Us
(27.01.2026)
How can energy communities utilize the potential of municipal companies in practice for the energy transition of local governments? The participants of the latest workshop organized under the “SWB – Słupsk Bioenergy Island” project searched for answers to this question. The event took place at Słupskie Wodociągi on January 23, 2026.
The workshop was practical and included a field-based approach. The starting point was the experience of the Słupsk Bioenergy Cluster (SKB) – an initiative uniting local governments, municipal companies, and entrepreneurs around a common goal: the development of local energy. Participants familiarized themselves with the investments carried out at the Słupsk wastewater treatment plant and the assumptions of the project funded by the KPO (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), which is coordinated by “Wodociągi Słupsk”, the leader of the SKB Cluster.
The agenda also included discussions with industry consultants, direct exchange of experiences among participants, and a visit to the Słupsk City Hall. There, a meeting was held with Krystyna Danilecka-Wojewódzka, the Mayor of Słupsk, focusing on the role of local government in the development of energy communities.
The workshop was attended by representatives of local governments, municipal companies, and the scientific community, representing institutions such as Goleniowskie Wodociągi i Kanalizacja, the Goleniów Municipality, the “Zielony Goleniów” Energy Cooperative, the District Heating Company (PEC) in Goleniów, the Poznań University of Life Sciences, and the KOS-EKO Municipal Infrastructure Company in Kościerzyna, as well as representatives of SKB, including Engie EC Słupsk.
The event was organized as part of the project “SWB Słupsk Bioenergy Island – Developing energy competences of the SKB cluster coordinator”, which received non-repayable support from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan under investment B2.2.2/G1.1.2: RES installations implemented by energy communities, Part B: investment support for energy communities, Activity B.1: Demonstration investment projects implemented by energy communities. The workshop was organized and hosted by “Wodociągi Słupsk”.
This is yet another workshop within the SWB project that provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences, showcase good practices, and build competences in the field of local energy. The pilot nature of the project means that the developed solutions can not only inspire but also be implemented in other local governments in the future.
